No matter how fast or shiny computers might be when they are new, they all seem to get slower over time. That state-of-the-art PC you bought last year might not feel like such a screamer after you install a dozen programs, load it with antispyware and antivirus tools, and download untold amounts of junk from the Internet.

The slowdown might happen so gradually you hardly notice it, until one day you’re trying to open a program or file and wonder, "What happened to my poor PC?"

Really nice article I saw on this website, that most PHPBB3 users can install this module and use on their website

http://kb.siteground.com/article/How_to_enable_RSS_in_phpBB.html

It explains everything about RSS for dummies (like me =] heehee) and be nice and rate it after you have registered yourself on the website

(and on zap.mu too !! )

Renaming Files using DOS Prompt !
***************************************************
There are times you cannot rename files on Windows directly, through right-click (rename) or for fasters, by pressing the F2 button. It helps to go back 'ol skul and type 'cmd' on Run or Start-R

This forum shows the different aspects of the rename function in DOS prompt, hope you enjoy it ;)

The Adobe Flash platform has grown from a crude animation software to a mature application development environment. Many design agencies specialize in spectacular Flash websites, and their creations are often rich interactive experiences built to wow the audience. Flash has a bad reputation for harming search engine visibility.

Not all flash on a web site is considered to be bad. A flash banner or gallery slideshow can add a lot of interactivity to a boring HTML website and your ranking in the SERPs can remain high. Some very important things to note while building a website in flash (or not) with flash splash screens and flash intros..

Nowadays I think, I agree with those who advise it too, that flash intros should be sort of banned. A good thing would be to have it included in top menu and top headers, which internally contains a top menu and a search bar with autocomplete fields for instance.

But on a sideline, there are many other ways to make a flash intro constructive, such as language options, presentational purposes and a host of other valid reasons..

This article is quite interesting for flash animators and web developers alike...

So once upon a time there was this type of book that was presented to under-fucking-developed countries like ours to make us understand that to gain the boss' confidence and the best seats in the office, well you must be what we say in french, a lêche-bobotte..

There is no other way other than abide by the boss' rules. In fact, it's the very first place that you become instigated by political behaviour and the roots of diplomacy: hypocrisy..

So I read a few lines cos lately things are simply deteriorating and and... the bottom line is simply this:

if you cant beat them join them..
LOL AHAHHA
sorry man no-cant-lick-your-boots
that goes to my fattest cowoww

so i have a complete list of 4000 houses, with their complete details in excel format, which, given their postal codes, i have to look for their locations and insert the latitudes and longitudes on Google Earth (their approximate values, based on my common sense, visually speaking ifever i come across an empty plot of land) back in the excel sheet. after that i shall then convert all this info into an xml sheet which i shall then deliver to my programmer for inserting in his flash application

thing is i managed to create and generate the xml sheet from the excel sheet, which was not easy, since there were loads of special characters (everything was in french, you can imagine the apostrophes and the special characters) and hard to convert to csv for importing via phpmyadmin.. but i did it ! a designer did programming finally !

however i still have to insert the longitudes and latitudes for 4000 houses on my sheet
im already starting it, cos my boss wants to see results :( for 4000 items, with all the searching and all the xml (nyehehe, the xml saved me time ^^), it will take me around 10000minutes which rounds up to approx 200hours, a month approx

is there any automated way or some way that can facilitate this hideous task ?

thanks to revert

ps: for those wanting to know how i managed the xls xml conversion with the special characters and the french accents taking care not to mess up the utf formats etc... email me :)

I found this article quite interesting and I have a theory about this. If ever I've hurt someone here, please don't get me wrong, it's just a theory

And So I Say: I believe there's a hierarchy...
software designer > software developer > software programmer > software coder

Once you have the idea to design based on the requirements specifications sheet brought in by the analyst (navigation and menus, content types, data flow diagram, gantt chart, state transition diagram, the environment, the PL to be used, online or offline, etc...), the major design tasks consisting of the ERD diagram (database design), the architecture of the software, design the components, NOW development comes into play: high level coding, pseudo codes, etc...

The programmer I believe will engage in constructing what the developer has prepared on a high level strategy; the developer lays the program that the programmer will now build and make it real. HE's the one who'll bring theory into reality.

You can also call them masons, essentials for ages if you take it as an analogy. For centuries and thousands of years, masons have constructed temples, towers like Babylon's Tower (which was where freemasons were believed to originate / start) Now, with the Internet Age, masons have become programmers :)

Programmers build programs created by the Developer / Architect. Just like masons, they will be given orders and they have to respect everything that they have been given, meticulously building the blocks, one by one until they finish the program... then move on to the next program, which could lie in Testing, but still a program...

I read some articles that say a developer can easily be a programmer.. NOT necessarily; these are two different fields: high level programming and low level programming; you cannot just make assumptions. In a race, programmers are the horses while the developers are the riders. Both are important to make it complete

That's why a carriage can never consist of more drivers than the horses
Can you imagine? Tooo many cooks would spoil the broth

Now to coders. I believe coders to be the mystery, the oblivious that heavily concentrate on codes, to make them better for instance. They might be the programmers' rivals but not necessarily... Like the words say, codes are to coders what programs are to programmers, right ?

Whilst programmers build the programs that they have been given to build, coders construct the codes that they will be given to build. A program consist of a series of lines of codes meant to do something. To make the codes better, stronger and more effective and efficient, coders come into play to make this happen.

If, For-While, Loops, Constructs would be what coders would concentrate on, whereas Make an entry in the database or converting a series of images into another format would be what programmers would be focussed on doing

I believe that's it !

Still I find it confusing though...
the difference between a programmer and a coder :( :(

in reference to: What is the difference between a coder and a programmer? - Quora (view on Google Sidewiki)

This is a one rare article I found it pleasing to read: the light english and the unbelievable truth about the difference between a programmer and a software developer. Those two jobs differ in so many ways. In many under-developed countries, people have this tendency to combine the two posts into one, thinking they are the same thing

Once you finish reading this article, you will not think the same way as traditional laymen or young geeks who would say to you in an interview: I just finished school and I have one year's experience as a software developer !

"Without being a programmer first?" you'd ask
"No!"

Ignorance is really a bliss !

To become a good developer, a Software Engineer or Computer Science major (or anyone else) must accept that they know very little about the day to day work that they have been hired to do.

They must strive to continue to learn every day and actually listen to the men and women around them who have been doing this work for eight or ten years. Eventually you will become a good programmer, and if you keep learning, you will become a good Software Developer.

Only when you arrive at that level of knowledge will you realize how little you knew as a green recruit.

Apple’s campaign to make native mobile apps seem sexier than the temperamental world of the mobile browser has been very successful. Tens of thousands of developers have been lured to the company’s App Store as a result.

Sencha offers built-in support for the geolocation API and the offline storage API, and takes advantage of CSS 3 for smaller, image-less design elements. Because all the major mobile platforms — iOS, Android and WebOS — use similar WebKit-based browsers, there’s little to worry about when it comes to support for cutting edge features like HTML5 and CSS 3. Even when Firefox arrives on mobiles, you should expect support to be on par.

Sencha has some demos available if you’d like to see what’s possible. The GeoCongress demo makes use of the geolocation API to find out where you are and then show a list of your senators and representative. There’s also a very slick Solitaire demo that shows how to preserve an app’s state using the HTML5 local storage API.

The Sencha Touch code is available under a GPLv3 license. If you’d like to experiment with the code, head over to the new Sencha Touch site and grab a copy.

If Sencha Touch doesn’t cover all your bases, there are several other frameworks out there that do similar things. Although not specifically geared to mobile-web apps, SproutCore can be used to create lightning-fast mobile-web apps.

What we need to install is actually PEAR Base System (a core package) which is called PEAR. All other packages use the core package to extend their functionalities. Later in this article, I will show you how to install and use a package that is not available in the core package.
